We have now released a free "patch" for QuickBooks 2008 and Enterprise 8.0. The current patch is R4 and available online at QuickBooks.com for download and from within QuickBooks from the Help menu.

Accountant Collaboration

Improved Accountant's Copy – File Transfer	Exchanging data files with my clients is challenging. Burning files to a CD and sending then via mail takes too much time. The files are often too large for email.	The new file transfer feature makes it easy for your client to upload an encrypted copy of their company file to a secure server. Once the file is uploaded you will receive an email notification that a file from your client is waiting for you. This feature is available in QuickBooks Pro, Premier, and Enterprise	preview
Improved Accountant's Copy – Multiple Version Support	I have to keep several versions of QuickBooks on my system to support my clients who have earlier versions.	The Accountant's Copy in QuickBooks 2008 now supports QuickBooks 2007 files. Now your clients with QuickBooks 2007 can send you an Accountant's copy of their file, you can work on in QuickBooks 2008 and send it back to them. Going forward we will continue supporting previous versions. So, QuickBooks 2009 should support QuickBooks 2008 and 2007. This feature is available in QuickBooks Accountant Edition
Improved Accountant's Copy – Perform More Tasks	I would like to use the accountant's copy but can't perform critical tasks.	We've expanded the capabilities for accountants in the Accountant's copy to include: – Bank and Credit Card account reconciliation – Tax–line Mapping for Accounts – Account Merge – Account Type Change – Edit Items – Edit or Void Deposits This feature is available in QuickBooks Accountant Edition

Online Banking Setup	I use online banking at my bank's website. I want to use QuickBooks online banking to download transactions from the bank into my QuickBooks company file, but setting it up is difficult and time consuming.	Our new Online Banking setup wizard streamlines the setup process from about 20 steps to as few as 3 steps, and gives you information specific to your bank. QuickBooks now tells you when setup is successful by automatically starting your first download of transactions. This feature is available in QuickBooks Pro, Premier, and Enterprise
Improved Help	When I use help it's in my way while following the instructions.	Help now appears side–by–side with QuickBooks, so you can see the Help and work in QuickBooks at the same time. If you leave Help open while you work, the Relevant Topics list at the top will update each time you open a new QuickBooks window and give you one–click access to the questions most users have on that screen. Payroll Setup changes	Please make Payroll Setup faster and more reliable.	Payroll Setup now loads up to 50% faster and we've made several reliability enhancements.
Passwords for Paystubs	When I email employee paystubs, I want them to be password protected.	When paystubs are emailed, they emailed as PDF files which now have a password. The employee must enter the password to view the paystub. We've included help and messaging on how the passwords are set. Pay part of a work group	I use schedules to group my employees, but I sometimes want to pay only some of the employees without advancing the date on the group.	We've now added an option at the end of the create paychecks work–flow to not update the dates for the next payroll. Now you can pay some of the employees in a schedule and then return later and pay the remaining employees and the schedule due dates will not advance. See earnings total on paycheck	I want to see the total gross earnings when I'm entering hours on a paycheck.	We've added subtotals to the earnings table on a paycheck that include total pay and total hours. Improved in QuickBooks 2008 R3
Reliability Improvements for Assisted Payroll	Sometimes I get an error when sending my Payroll to Intuit (Assisted Payroll and Direct Deposit only.)	We made several key reliability and user interface improvements to Assisted payroll to handle exception cases. Sick/Vacation accrual on Sick/Vacation taken	I calculate Sick/Vacation time on hours. However, I don't want to accrue more sick/vacation when sick/vacation is taken by the employee.	We added an option to not accrue sick/vacation awarded per hour for sick/vacation taken. Improved in QuickBooks 2008 R3	preview

Change Salary total when salary is split	I pay my employees salary, but sometimes they take a partial pay–period off without pay, or I want to change their salary for another reason. When the salary is split between Jobs or Classes, I can't change the salary amount.	Now when the salary is split between Jobs or Classes, you can change the total salary amount. When you change one amount of a split salary, that rate of change is applied to the other items. For example, if the employee has a $1,500 salary split three ways and you change one of the $500 amounts to $250 (as they took 1/2 of the pay period off without pay) then the other line items change to $250 as well. Make Edits Faster	Saving and Modifying linked transactions is slow.	Saving and modifying linked transactions with lots of line items is now 2 to 3 times faster in QuickBooks 2008. This feature is available in QuickBooks Pro, Premier, and Enterprise
Faster Reports	Some reports run slow.	Accrual based reports are 2 to 3 times faster in QB2008. Customer Quote: "QuickBooks 8.0 is about 40% faster on all reports on our system." This feature is available in QuickBooks Pro, Premier, and Enterprise
Faster Startup	Startup takes a long time.	Startup is 70% faster in QB 2008. Now larger files open as fast as smaller ones. Customer Quotes: "The launch time is down to seconds and data entry is much faster. This will make even my most impatient clients happy!" This feature is available in QuickBooks Pro, Premier, and Enterprise

Payment Authorizations	I process credit cards using the QuickBooks Merchant Service. I can process payments but need a way to do payment authorizations. Email from Outlook	I prefer to send my customers their invoices via email but the current QuickBooks email function doesn't give me a record of what I sent.	Now you can email transactions and reports from QuickBooks via Outlook and Outlook Express. Invoice for Time & Expenses	I bill my customers for time and expenses. I need QuickBooks to show me who to bill and then create my invoice for me.	Now you can see a single display of all your outstanding billables by customer. Select a customer who needs to get an invoice and with one click create an invoice for those billables. Time Tracker for Outlook	I need an easy way to capture billable hours from my appointment calendar.
